The Memorial da América Latina region, in Barra Funda, in São Paulo, will not turn into a new Cracolândia, said the vice-governor of São Paulo, Felicio Ramuth (PSD), in an interview with CNN Arena. The place, which is an important cultural facility in the state where various events are held, has had a small concentration of people in vulnerable situations.
According to the survey presented by the vice-governor, 23 people were identified in the region in the last two days. The vast majority are homeless residents, with only two people identified as users from the open scene on Rua dos Protestantes, representing less than 8% of the total.

The characteristics observed at the site are significantly different from those found at . Mainly mattresses were found around the Memorial, differing from the usual scenario with stalls selling goods, typical of other regions affected by drug use.
Ramuth highlighted that, although the current situation is not ideal for the city, there are no elements that constitute a “” or a . The city hall’s social teams, together with the Military Police and the Municipal Civil Guard, have already carried out approaches over the last week, offering assistance to people in the area.
The deputy governor recalls that, according to current legislation, it is not possible to force people to leave the streets. According to him, the work carried out focuses on offering social services and assistance, seeking alternatives for the socially vulnerable population that lives in the region.
