Two incidents on railways in Poland are linked to the possible activity of Russian intelligence services. Authorities have launched an investigation into suspected terrorist acts.
According to the Polish security services, the incidents on the railway line south of Warsaw were probably the result of the activities of Russian intelligence structures. This was stated on Tuesday by the spokesman of the Minister for the Coordination of Special Services, Jacek Dobrzynski, who described the incident as an “almost terrorist act” initiated by Russia, reports the Warsaw correspondent TASR according to the PAP agency.
Dobrzynski emphasized that Moscow’s goal is to destabilize Poland and create fear among the population. “Everything indicates that this, one might say, almost a terrorist attack, was initiated by intelligence services from the East,” he said. He added that the Russian services want to cause a split in society and intimidate the population and pointed out that some unverified information spread by the media may be part of a Russian disinformation campaign.
Miscellaneous events on the railway
Two acts of diversion occurred between November 15 and 17. In the village of Mika in the Masovian Voivodeship, a bomb exploded that damaged the tracks, and at the Golab station in the Lublin Voivodeship, the train with 475 passengers had to brake sharply due to damage to the track. After the events, the government security committee met with the participation of the leadership of the army and the secret services of Poland. Prime Minister Donald Tusk plans to make a special speech in the Sejm at 1:00 p.m.
NATO is following the investigation
The prosecutor’s office has started an investigation into suspected terrorist acts against the railway infrastructure, allegedly committed for the benefit of foreign intelligence. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that the alliance is in contact with the Polish authorities and is waiting for the results of the investigation.
