Spain will finance the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine with 100 million euros | Spain

Spain will mobilize 817 million euros in support of Ukraine, including 100 million for the purchase of American weapons – mainly anti-aircraft missiles to protect energy infrastructures from Russian bombings – through NATO. The Spanish contribution will be included in an order of 500 million coordinated by the Atlantic Alliance through the PURL program (acronym in English for “Priority Requirements List for Ukraine”), to meet the most pressing needs of the Ukrainian Army. This was announced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in a joint appearance at La Moncloa with Volodímir Zelenski, which culminated the third visit to Spain of the Ukrainian president.

Of the 817 million, 615 million correspond to new military equipment that will be completed before the end of the year: 300 million of bilateral support; another 215 through the SAFE program of the European Union and the rest, the aforementioned 100 million, to American weapons. These amounts were already provided for in the defense and security cooperation agreement that, worth 1 billion annually, Sánchez and Zelenski signed last year. In addition, the Government will launch a credit program to finance with 200 million the participation of Spanish companies in the reconstruction of sectors such as water, energy and transportation; and will contribute two million to a United Nations program to restore heating in the town of Sammar, with 28,000 residents

Presidents Pedro Sánchez and Zelenski have closed the Spanish participation in this program during the meeting they are currently holding in La Moncloa.

The Ukrainian president comes from France and Greece as part of a tour that seeks to persuade his European allies to increase military aid to the invaded country. Zelensky has begun his third visit to Spain by attending Congress, where he was received by the president of the Lower House, Francina Armengol, and the president of the Senate, Pedro Rollán. Afterwards, he had lunch with the King and met at the Indra headquarters with executives from a dozen Spanish companies.
