The Hidalgos bet on their trusted man and appoint Richard Clark CEO of Air Europa | Companies

Bet on internal promotion and recognition of years of management at Air Europa. The airline’s current CEO, Richard Clark, has been appointed CEO, who has held the position since summer 2022 on behalf of SEPI. The new executive who will support President Juan José Hidalgo at the head of the company joined its ranks in 1987 and has led strategic areas and projects of the greatest relevance.

The company has highlighted Clark’s knowledge of the aeronautical industry and the air business, in addition to “a strategic vision and recognized management and negotiation skills.” The new CEO has spoken of an “opportunity to continue building the future of Air Europa.” Richard Clark has thanked the airline’s controlling shareholder, Globalia, for his promotion, which is now with the IAG group (20%). “I face this challenge with the same enthusiasm as the first day, convinced that, with the effort and talent of our entire staff, we will ensure that Air Europa continues to grow and consolidate itself as an international reference airline,” the executive concluded.

Among its priorities is “strengthening the Madrid hub as a bridge between continents and moving forward hand in hand with our strategic partners to offer our clients a unique, sustainable and quality experience.” Once the acquisition of Air Europa by IAG was frustrated last year, the Hidalgo company has set out to rebuild its competitive position against Iberia. This morning, Air Europa announced an agreement with Airbus to acquire up to 40 A350-900 aircraft to strengthen its connections mainly between Spain and America.

In addition to the change in the position of CEO, Air Europa will announce in the coming days the configuration of a new board of directors following the departure, along with Nuño de la Rosa, of the other two representatives of SEPI, César Hernández Blanco and Juan Manuel Bujía. The changes at the top, with the invitation to Turkish to occupy a seat in the decision-making body, give visibility to the recovery of the reins of the airline by Juan José Hidalgo. His son Javier Hidalgo, also Richar Clark, has been directly involved in the negotiations with the Turkish giant and those held with Airbus for the expansion of the fleet.
