The murder of Kuciak († 27) and Kušnírová († 27) on trial: Šutaj Eštok explained it clearly to Fic!

In the case of Kuciak, the investigation was closed, its renewal is technically impossible. The Minister of the Interior stated this for journalists Matúš Šutaj Eštok (Hlas-SD) in response to Prime Minister Robert Fico’s (Smer-SD) call to reopen the investigation into the murder of Ján Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kušnírová. “It’s in court today, I don’t know what else can be done procedurally,” he added.

“I think that the general prosecutor also made a clear statement about this. If the supervising prosecutor comes in a state where the case is already in court, with a proposal that some evidence needs to be added, the prosecutor must decide on it and then the investigator can act. After all, we have the Slovak Information Service, if it has any material that would say that there is essential evidence, saying that it will help to clarify who was behind this heinous murder, I think we are ready to act at any time, but here, I think the matter is procedurally closed, from the point of view of the investigation,” he added.

He also thinks that Slovakia has many other concerns and challenges that need to be addressed. “If the prime minister has any information, I think he will definitely come forward with it“, he pointed out.

In response to Fico’s call to reform the Slovak political system, he pointed out that a democratic competition is also about the fact that people have the right to be elected. “Of course, it would be best for every government and government coalition if the number of parties was as small as possible, but that is, I think, lower in the ranking than democracy itself“, he added.

At the Smer-SD party event on Monday (November 17) called November 17 – the day of respect for different opinions, the Prime Minister called on the political scene to reform the Slovak political system based on the principle of free democratic elections. He also called on the Minister of the Interior and the Prosecutor General of the Slovak Republic, Maroš Žilinka, to “under the weight of the new circumstances that have appeared on the international scene, look again at what happened in 2018”.
