The new president of the National Assembly of Angola, Adão de Almeida

The new president of the National Assembly of Angola warned this Monday of the risk of “new forms of colonization” emerging and argued that Africa and the global south must have a “decent place at the table” in the reconfiguration of the world order.

The official considered that, if current trends continue, hegemonic disputes between great powers could intensify, producing “new bridges and new walls” and accentuating global asymmetries.

“The colonization that was once carried out with a physical presence can take on new features, starting to be carried out kilometers away”, he stated, highlighting that phenomena such as the unemployment ea emigration are related to these global dynamics.

“Being aware of these phenomena is essential so that we do not soon have to wage new struggles against new forms of colonization, even if other names are given to them”, he reinforced.

“We cannot tire of raising our voices in favor of a reconfiguration of the world order that reserves a dignified space for the global south and ensures the permanent and uncompromising defense of the interests of the African continent”, he stated.

Adão de Almeida also mentioned the , celebrated this month, as a moment of reflection on collective identity and the construction of a nation “by everyone and for everyone”.
