The Federal Police arrested, this Tuesday (18), Bahian businessman Augusto Lima, former partner of Daniel Vorcaro at Banco Master. He is the target of Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates fraud involving credit portfolios and other irregularities in the financial conglomerate controlled by Vorcaro.
Lima joined the banking sector in 2018, after an initial career in retail, selling candles and abadás. Entry into the financial market occurred during the privatization of Empresa Baiana de Alimentos (Ebal), owner of the Cesta do Povo chain.
In the operation, Lima took over the financial part and created CredCresta, a payroll credit card aimed at public servants and employees in the private sector. The product ended up being incorporated into Master when he became Vorcaro’s partner in 2019, becoming one of the bank’s main business arms.
In addition to its activities in the financial sector, Lima maintains contact between politicians in Bahia and Brasília. In January last year, he married Flávia Peres, former minister of the Bolsonaro government, former federal deputy and ex-wife of former governor of the Federal District José Roberto Arruda.
The two created the NGO Terra Firme, chaired by her, with a focus on combating poverty and social inequalities.
Lima left the partnership at Banco Master this year and took control of Voiter bank, a member of the group. He renamed the institution Pleno and made two capital contributions totaling R$160 million.
