Romanian forces have again responded to the intrusion of a foreign drone into their airspace. The local Ministry of Defense informed about the dispatch of German and own fighter jets.
On Wednesday morning, Romania recorded another penetration of a foreign drone into its airspace. It then sent four fighter jets to protect its territory. This was reported by the AFP agency, writes TASR.
The drone first flew approximately eight kilometers between the villages of Periprava and Chilia Veche in Tulcea county before returning back to the territory of Ukraine. From there, he flew over the border of Moldova, then re-entered Romanian airspace and headed for the village of Foltešti in Galați County, where the Romanian Air Force finally lost his radar signal.
In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of Defense specified that “the drone appeared intermittently on the radar for approximately 12 minutes”, with no reported contact with the ground.
According to the Romanian authorities, two German Eurofighter Typhoon fighters and two Romanian F-16s took off from Mihail Kogalniceanu and Campia Turzii air bases after detecting the penetration of a foreign drone over Romanian territory.
Attacks in Ukraine continue
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia launched more than 470 drones and 48 missiles during nighttime attacks on Ukraine. He called it one of the most intense waves of attacks in recent weeks.
On Wednesday morning, the Polish army also issued an order for fighter jets to take off to protect their territory. This happened in connection with Russian drone and missile attacks in western Ukraine.
