Alcolumbre announces Alessandro Vieira as rapporteur of the Antifaction project in the Senate

The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), announced this Tuesday, 18th, Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) as the rapporteur of the anti-faction project when the text is sent to the Senate. The project still needs to be approved by the Chamber and the vote is scheduled for this Tuesday, 18th.

“Alessandro Vieira has a long legal career, he has great experience as a profession, but also as a legislator and senator, he has on his personal agenda the fight and protection of Brazilians since his origins in Sergipe”, declared Alcolumbre in plenary.

“Brazil awaits a response from Parliament in tackling crime and I am sure that all our other senators who were waiting for this matter to arrive will understand the choice of this presidency”, continued Alcolumbre.

Earlier, the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated that the plenary of the House would consider the Antifaction PL. Motta also denied that the Chamber was interested in taking powers away from the Federal Police and said that the report by Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) followed suggestions from the federal government, the Senate, governors and political parties. The deputy also declared that the creation of the opinion will allow the Chamber to give a “tough response” to organized crime.

With the Anti-Faction bill about to be voted on in the Chamber plenary, the Bolsonaro bench is articulating the approval of an amendment to equate the crime of an armed criminal organization with that of terrorism.

The mention of terrorism had been removed from the third version of the report by deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP), due to pressure from the federal government and other sectors. But Bolsonarists maintain their demand for the agenda.
