The president of Venezuela, led a prayer meeting for peace this morning, following the North American military deployment in the Caribbean Sea, and declared Jesus Christ as “lord and owner” of the South American country.
The event, held at the Miraflores Palace (seat of Government) and broadcast on the state channel (VTV), included evangelical pastors, the first lady, Cilia Flores, as well as the deputy and vice president of Religious Affairs of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of the president.
“Know that this presidential palace, truly, is the palace of the people and from today it is an altar to glorify God, so that the people glorify God, a great altar of prayer and strength,” said Maduro at the so-called ‘Binational Meeting of Prayer for Peace’.
The president read a manifesto in which he ratified Jesus Christ as “lord and owner” of Venezuela.
Even so, he recalled that in Venezuela there is freedom of worship, established in the current Constitution, which dates back to 1999, but, he said, that as a citizen and president he is “radicalized” with Christ. “I recognize the only real and true God, the only one I adore and honor, the father, the son and the holy spirit who protects and will protect our country,” reiterated the head of state, who has defended dialogue and diplomacy with Washington.
Worrying escalation
The tension between Venezuela and the US has been escalating – which includes the largest US aircraft carrier – ordered by the White House since August in the Caribbean, which it defends as an operation against drug trafficking, but which Caracas denounces as a “threat” and an attempt to promote a regime change.
On Monday, Maduro assured that attacking Venezuela “militarily” would be the “political end” of his United States counterpart, who insisted that he does not rule out any option regarding a possible intervention in Venezuelan territory.
According to the Chavista leader, there is “an effort by power sectors in the United States to destroy President Trump” with two issues, and the other about Venezuela. Maduro also showed himself willing to talk “face to face (face to face)” with Trump, who declared on Monday that he is open to talking with his South American counterpart.
On Sunday, the US State Department announced that it will designate, as of November 24, the Cartel of the Suns as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO), a group that Washington links to Maduro, whose government considers that statement “an invention.”
