“This Russian action is extremely dangerous”
The British Secretary of Defense, John Healey, said this Wednesday, in an intervention in Downing Street, that “a Russian spy ship, the Yantar, is on the border of the territorial waters of the United Kingdom, north of Scotland, having entered the territorial waters of the United Kingdom in recent weeks”.
The Yantar is a vessel designed to collect information and map our submarine cables.
“We sent a Royal Navy frigate and RAF planes to monitor and track all the movements of this vessel, during which Yantar pointed lasers at our pilots,” added John Healey in the intervention, cited by Sky News.
“This Russian action is extremely dangerous and it is the second time this year that this ship, the Yantar, has been sent to the territorial waters of the United Kingdom”, highlighted the British government official
John Healey added that his “message to Russia and Putin is this: we are paying attention, we know what they are doing, and if Yantar travels south this week, we are prepared.”
This news comes on the day it is also known that NATO has deployed fighters in Polish and Romanian airspace.
NATO’s intervention comes after a Russian attack this Wednesday that involved 470 drones and 48 missiles – mainly concentrated in the western areas of Ukraine, close to the borders with Romania and Poland. Romania’s Defense Ministry said a Russian drone entered the country’s airspace during the attack.
