The unity between passengers and crew on a Delta Air Lines flight prevented an elderly couple’s trip from ending before it began. Kam and Tim Boles, who had everything planned to embark on a cruise in South Africa, got on the plane in Atlanta when they discovered that one of their passports was missing.
Panic set in quickly. After searching the bags and confirming that the document was not with either of them, Kam realized that the long-awaited trip could be on the way. The situation mobilized everyone on board. Passengers, crew and even employees outside the plane participated in a search that lasted more than twenty minutes. Flight attendant Catherine McCaffrey explained that they searched everywhere, even in a small space between the plane door and the ramp.
With the couple already without much hope, the moment came that changed everything: the flight attendant found the passport. The moment was recorded by a passenger and shared on social media, showing the general relief on board.
As this was Captain Joe Ricciardi’s last flight before retirement, the pilot decided to make an exception and authorized the two travelers to reboard. Excited, Kam and Tim thanked everyone for their generosity and confessed that they were surprised by the support of the other passengers, who celebrated the happy outcome instead of showing impatience.
