The federal deputy and rapporteur of PL Antifaction, (PP-SP), reacted to the criticism leveled by the Minister of Finance, and by members of the Workers’ Party (PT). In response to accusations that his report would harm police intelligence and the fight against criminal organizations, Derrite stated that the federal government is building a “dishonest electoral narrative”.

The conflict, which gained new chapters this week, revolves around proposals for tougher penalties against criminal factions. Haddad had publicly declared that Derrite “is not a person versed in investigation and intelligence” and maintained that the text proposed by the deputy would “asphyxiate” the (PF) and the Federal Revenue Service, putting major anti-money laundering operations at risk.

Derrite, who took leave from his position as Secretary of Public Security to report on the matter at , refuted the thesis that his project removes powers from federal agencies. According to him, the accusation of institutional weakening is a deliberate political strategy by the PT to confuse public opinion and erode the opposition’s image with a view to future electoral disputes.

For the parliamentarian, the objective of the Antifaction PL is precisely the opposite: to provide more legal tools for state and federal police, toughening penalties and criminalizing conduct that currently allows faction leaders to have impunity. Derrite argues that the government’s insistence on focusing on the rapporteur’s alleged “lack of technical knowledge” is a maneuver to avoid debating the merits of tightening laws.

Points of divergence

The central controversy lies in the interpretation of the replacement text presented by Derrite.

  • Government Vision (Haddad/PT): It alleges that the project imposes bureaucracies that hinder the independent action of the PF and the Revenue, indirectly favoring the “upstairs” of organized crime;

  • Rapporteur’s View (Derrite): He argues that the text integrates the security forces and classifies the criticism as a “lie” created to cover up the federal government’s inefficiency in public security;
