Father who called the police because of an African drawing is a military police officer

The Public Security Secretariat confirmed that the father who called a Military Police detail into a kindergarten school is an active PM. The soldier, whose name will not be disclosed to protect the child’s identity, called his colleagues in uniform after not agreeing with an African drawing made by his daughter in class.

The PM’s action mobilized 12 agents and generated reports of intimidation against employees, provoking a reaction from the school community/Photo: Reproduction

Reports from employees and managers state that twelve police officers entered the unit, including an agent carrying high-caliber weapons. A server said that she was cornered against the wall and that a gun had been pressed against her body during the attack, which, according to her, lasted more than an hour. Witnesses also report that there was shouting and tension between the police officers and school professionals.

The incident was registered on November 11, after the police officer father claimed that his daughter was being exposed to a supposed “African religion class” because of a drawing with the name “Iansã”, an orixá associated with the winds. The school claims that it was just an educational activity on cultural diversity.

The employee who felt threatened filed a police report against the police officer. He also registered a police report, denying having damaged materials in the room when removing his daughter’s drawing.

Outraged by the episode, residents and family members prepared a petition in defense of the school and its professionals, affirming full support for the pedagogical work and accusing police action of transmitting misleading and prejudiced information to the community.
