The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), celebrated the celebration on social media.
The proposal reported by deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP), licensed secretary of Public Security in São Paulo, passed with a large majority: 370 votes in favor and 110 against.
In a publication in X this Wednesday (19), Tarcísio stated that “Brazilian citizens have reason to celebrate” and highlighted the “courage” of the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), in addition to Derrite’s “professional and leading work”.

For the governor, the vote demonstrates that public safety has returned to the center of national discussions. “Whoever doesn’t understand this doesn’t understand Brazil,” he wrote.
The day before, Tarcísio had already expressed himself in a similar tone, saying that “the message is clear: a criminal’s place is in jail”, when commenting on the PL’s progress in Congress.
