Google launches Gemini 3 and already incorporates AI model into its search service

Alphabet’s Google on Tuesday launched the latest version of its artificial intelligence model, Gemini, emphasizing that the new features will be immediately available in several lucrative products such as its search engine.

Gemini 3, released 11 months after the second generation of the model, appears, in theory, to keep Google at the forefront of the AI ​​race. During a press conference, executives highlighted Gemini 3’s leadership position in several popular industry rankings that measure the performance of AI models.

Chief Executive Sundar Pichai described it as ‘our smartest model’ in a post on the company’s blog.

However, the AI ​​race has increasingly moved away from benchmarks and toward profitable applications of the technology, as Wall Street looks for signs of an AI bubble. Alphabet shares have so far gained a lot this year, largely due to the financial success of its cloud computing division’s AI offerings.

But even with leading developers like Google, OpenAI and Anthropic behind them, new AI model updates have had a hard time standing out, attracting attention only when they fail, as Meta experienced earlier this year.

Google emphasized that Gemini 3, unlike previous versions, was already serving as the basis for several revenue-generating consumer and enterprise products at the time of launch.

“We believe Gemini has set a new pace, both in launching models and making them available to people faster than ever before,” Koray Kavukcuoglu, Google’s chief AI architect, told journalists during the press conference.

Pichai stated that the launch of Gemini 3 marked the first time that Google has incorporated its new model into its search engine from day one. In the past, new versions of Gemini took weeks or months to integrate into Google’s most widely used products.

Paid subscribers to Google’s premium AI plan will have access to Gemini 3 features in AI Mode, a search functionality that ditches standard web results in favor of computer-generated answers to complex queries.

New features

Improvements in Gemini 3 in domains such as coding and reasoning have allowed Google to develop a set of new capabilities for both consumer and enterprise customers.

The company launched ‘Gemini Agent’, a feature capable of performing complex tasks such as organizing a user’s inbox or booking travel. The tool brings Google closer to the vision of Demis Hassabis, the company’s head of AI, of a ‘universal assistant’ that internally has been called AlphaAssist, as previously reported by Reuters.

Google also redesigned the Gemini app to return responses that resemble a full website, an additional blow to content publishers who rely on web traffic to generate revenue.

Josh Woodward, vice president responsible for the app, demonstrated to reporters how Gemini can now respond to a query such as ‘create a Van Gogh gallery with life context for each work’, generating an on-demand interface with visual and interactive elements.

For enterprise customers, Google previewed a new product called Antigravity, a new software development platform where AI agents can plan and execute programming tasks on their own.
