The former striker Joewho stood out for Corinthians, Atlético-MG and the Brazilian team, was arrested on Tuesday night (11/18) at Praia da Barra da Tijucain the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The arrest was carried out following a determination by the Rio Court, motivated by the non-payment of child support for one of your childrenin debt that already totals 12 months, according to the child’s mother. The former player, arrested for the fourth time, was taken by Civil Police teams to the 16th DP, in Barra da Tijuca.

The detention order came from the 1st Family Court of Jacarepaguá. The case reinforces a recent history of legal problems faced by Jô involving delayed pensions. In June 2025 – in what was his third arrest that year alone – the former striker was detained at Guarulhos Airport after failing to pay the pension for the 2-year-old son he had with businesswoman and influencer Maiára Quiderolly. At the time, the defense alleged financial difficulties and maintained that the amounts set judicially did not match the athlete’s current economic reality. The child’s mother, however, publicly stated that she considered prison the only way to guarantee that she would receive what was owed.

The June arrest triggered other repercussions. Days after being released, on the 17th of that month, Jô put up for sale a mansion valued at R$5 million in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood, where his ex-wife, Claudia Silva, and two of his eight children live. The property, located in a luxury condominium, has 507 m² of built area distributed over three floors, with five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a large living room divided into three rooms, spacious kitchen, support suite, swimming pool, garden and equipped gourmet area. The property was being offered fully furnished, according to the listing.

Is Jô currently without money?

The former player’s history of financial difficulties is not recent. In May 2024, in a case relating to a rent debt in São Paulo, a judicial sweep of his bank accounts found only R$67.35 available. The blockade occurred weeks before the athlete was arrested in Campinas for delays in another child’s pension. At the time, Jô had already suffered a retention of approximately R$50 thousand, but the Court understood that there was still R$22.6 thousand to be paid, leading to a new charge.

After his arrest in May 2024, the former attacker was released when the plaintiff confirmed payment of the amount owed. At that time, Jô had been defending Amazonas since January.

Retired since August 2025, the 38-year-old former player is currently without the income from his playing days. At Manchester City, Jô earned a salary of R$1 million per month. At Corinthians, he received R$700,000.

After he stopped, Jô launched a pagode group called Jô Gando em Casa. The former athlete plays so much in the band’s formation.
