The governor of , (Republicans), raised the tone of criticism of the federal government and president Luiz Inácio da Silva (PT) in an exclusive interview given this Wednesday (19) to Jovem Pan FM – Presidente Prudente. When commenting on the scenario for the 2026 elections, Tarcísio diagnosed a “model exhaustion” in the current administration and stated that the PT cycle has come to an end.

Although he avoided launching himself as an immediate candidate for the Presidency, reiterating that “2026 is a long way away”, the governor highlighted that São Paulo will play a central role in organizing the opposition.

Focus on São Paulo and national articulation

At the beginning of his statement, Tarcísio highlighted that his current priority is state management, citing his commitment to medium and long-term structuring projects. “We are very grateful for the trust that the citizens of São Paulo gave us”, he stated.

However, the governor recognized the political weight of the state — the largest electoral college in the country — in the formation of an opposition front. According to him, São Paulo will be decisive in the “center-right arrangement” for the next national election. “We are going to work hard for the group, for a project that is a transformation project”, he assured.

Criticism of the ‘class that is there’

Tarcísio harshly criticized the current federal management. Classifying the government team as “very bad”, he argued that the PT does not have a clear project for the country and is experiencing a moment of political and administrative stagnation.

“They don’t have a project for Brazil and they are exhausted. They have exhausted their model. It’s been 40 years with the same group discussing the same thing”, said the governor.

Lula

At the end of his speech, Tarcísio directed his criticisms directly at the figure of President Lula, highlighting the PT member’s longevity on the electoral scene as a sign of the need for renewal. The governor recalled that Lula has been contesting presidential elections since 1982 and was directly involved in the vast majority of elections in recent decades.

For Tarcísio, Lula’s political contribution has already been made and the moment demands alternation. “Enough, okay, he’s already made his contribution. There’s nothing more to offer”, he concluded.
