Although the weather was not favorable, the squares in Slovak cities were filled with thousands of people on Monday, November 17. Gatherings were held for the Gentle Revolution. At a protest in the center of Bratislava, the opposition parties and movements KDH, SaS, PS and the non-parliamentary party Democrats called at the end of Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government (Smer-SD). They want to defeat him in the next election. PS leader Michal Šimečka expressed his ambition to win them.
Tens of thousands of people took part in the event They won’t take November from us, which was held on Náměstí slobody in Bratislava on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the Gentle Revolution. The crowd chanted “Enough of Fica”, “We want change” or “We will not give Slovakia”.
According to Šimeček, people in November 1989 had courage and a desire for freedom. “These are exactly two values that the communists did not understand. As Robert Fico does not understand them today. Therefore, he will lose exactly as the communists lost,” he said. At the same time, he declared on stage that one of the first things he would do after taking office would be to return November 17 as a day of rest.
Public gatherings are often crowded with familiar faces. Some artists even address the crowd directly from the stage. He posted a picture of the gathering on the social network actor from the Dunaj series, at your service Jakub Jablonský together with his partner and actress Petra Dubayová.
They were also on it with their little daughter, who was born on August 7, 2025. “Even Vesna came at least for a while,” wrote Jablonský to the picture of a partner with a pram. You can find it in the gallery. And although people were worried about the rainy weather, Petra Dubayová had a sincere smile on her lips.
