Rapporteur of the anti-faction project in the Senate says that ‘noise’ about the PF will be resolved

Senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), appointed by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) to report on the PL Antifaction in the House, said this Wednesday, 19, in an interview with GloboNews that “the noise” about the Federal Police (PF) will be resolved in the Senate.

He assessed that it is necessary to reach a “consensual” text and that the content approved this Tuesday, 18th, by the Chamber of Deputies is already very close to what the PF intends.

“We will deliver a text capable of being voted on in the Senate later this month and, certainly (with the changes that will be made) it should return to the Chamber of Deputies”, said Vieira, who is also part of the board of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) on Organized Crime.

The Chamber approved the anti-faction bill, in accordance with the substitute presented by deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP). Government officials complained about the PF’s duties and issues related to the corporation’s financing.

The base text was approved by 370 votes to 110, and the final wording of the proposal was endorsed in a symbolic vote. The proposal that creates the Legal Framework for Combating Organized Crime in Brazil now goes to the Senate, under Vieira’s report.

After approval in the Chamber, the President of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated that in the debate on the text “there were no heroes and villains”. “Politicians can assert their narratives, but the real villain is organized crime and the hero is the Brazilian people,” he stated. According to Mota, the Chamber ‘made history’ by delivering a “tough response against criminals”.

The vote was met with resistance from the base of the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva government, which is now preparing to try to modify points of the text in the Senate, especially regarding the allocation of criminal assets to federal funds. Government officials tried to postpone the deliberation and vote on the original project sent to the Chamber, but without success.
