An impressive rough diamond weighing 1,094 carats was sold by Lucara Diamond Corp. for the amount of 12 million dollars, according to the official announcement.
called Seriti, comes from the Karowe mine in Botswana, recognized globally for its frequent production of diamonds of exceptional size. The company will receive, in addition to the initial amount, a share of the future profit after the diamond is cut and sold.
Weighing approximately 218 grams, Seriti is yet another example of the potential of the Karowe mine, where diamonds exceeding 10.8 carats are classified as “special” and generate a large portion of the company’s revenue.
The mine is located in a rare geological formation – a kimberlitic structure, a volcanic channel that brought the diamonds from the depths of the mantle to the surface. Advanced technologies are used to sort the stones, including X-ray scanning, which helps detect and protect large diamonds during processing.
In addition to such giant stones, Karowe is also known for type IIa diamonds, some of the purest and most valuable in the world, valued by both collectors and luxury brands. Although they represent a small percentage of world production, these stones are highly sought after.
With the price of lab-grown synthetic diamonds falling, interest in rare and high-grade natural diamonds is growing. The Karowe mine thus consolidates its status as an essential source for the world’s largest and most precious natural diamonds.
