The party’s positioning occurs

The pact was signed at the end of 2024 and provided for the first occupant of the position. On December 2, the party will decide which name will be chosen to succeed Teixeira in 2026.

The decision was formalized in a note signed by the municipal president of União Brasil, the former president of the City Council Milton Leite.

“The party will maintain the agreement reached in December 2024, which provides for rotation in the nomination of councilors from the bench to compete for the presidency of the São Paulo City Council”, says the note. A copy of the document signed on that occasion by Milton and the party’s seven councilors in the capital formalizing the agreement was also released.

The note also says that, regardless of which candidate is chosen for the dispute, support for the mayor’s management will be maintained ().

Leite has a preference for nominating councilor Silvão Leite, who was his advisor, to succeed Teixeira.

be kept at least one more year in charge of the House, as he is a more independent person from the former president of the House. Leite, despite having left office, continues to have a lot of influence over the councilors.

Teixeira himself has maintained a dubious position on the matter. He did not participate in the Municipal Executive meeting. The election is scheduled for December 15th.

There is an agreement among the mayor so that the name indicated by União Brasil can be elected, but the impasse could lead councilors from other parties to jump into the dispute. One of those considering running is the current vice-president, João Jorge (MDB).
