For Kassab, the names of the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic will be defined by Carnival
The national president of the PSD and Secretary of Government and Institutional Relations of the State of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab, stated that with a unity of center-right parties around the candidacy of the State governor, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), the 2006 presidential election will be “soon resolved”. If he does not compete in the race for Planalto, the more names, the better, to push the election to the second round. He also defended the building of an alliance that gives the governor a center-right brand in the dispute.
“If we have unity around Tarcísio, a solution that doesn’t give him the label of a right-wing candidate, (but rather) a center-right candidate, I think we can resolve (the elections) soon,” said Kassab, during a Bradesco BBI event, in New York, in the United States.
According to him, with Tarcísio, it will be possible to have a “single candidacy” against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Kassab states that the PSD will support Tarcísio’s candidacy. If he does not agree to run in the 2026 presidential election, the name chosen will be that of the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Jr. (PSD), and, subsequently, that of the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite.
For Kassab, the names of the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic will be defined by Carnival in Brazil, in February 2026.
