The actor Leandro Hassum52, is responsible for giving life to the presenter Silvio Santos (1930-2024) in fiction “Silvio Santos is coming”which hits theaters this Thursday (20).
In a press conference in which the CNN Brazil was present, the star recalled that one of the supporting actresses I was thrilled to see him for the first time as the television veteran. In the scene, he recorded a moment when Silvio was on stage preparing for his program. “There was a lady who took me by the arm and said: “I see Silvio here… I see Silvio here”. Crying! It’s a tremendous response when you come in like that”, commented the actor.
Even with the shock of the moment, the actor said he was grateful and got into character, doing the relaxation that the businessman himself used to do. Hassum adds that he tried incorporate a habit that Silvio Santos himself had: talking to the audience even if the cameras weren’t on. “Behind the scenes, I would put the napkin on so as not to get my collar dirty and I would joke: ‘Where did you come from? But what were you doing there? Where are the applauses, I don’t know what’. Things that weren’t in the film, but that brought this universe. I was told that he did this, he talked to the audience before he started too. I made a point of doing it, even to trainbecause it helped a lot. Everything helped me. The audience helped me, Cris, the cast, everything.”
reflected that he never considered himself similar to the presenter and that he himself, in his comedy career, never imitated Silvio Santos’s caricatured style, and recalls advice from the director of “Zorra Total”: a man imitating Silvio Santos Doesn’t mean he’s a good actorbecause everyone knows how to imitate. “Miraculously, despite being a comedian, I never imitated Silvio Santos, I don’t know how to imitate, I still don’t know how”, he adds.
However, when he saw graffiti on the young veteran’s street, he was able to see similarities and open up to the role. To get into the character, Hassum assumed that he would not be a “copy” of Santos, but would build his own: “I don’t want to be an imitation of Silvio Santos. I want take that energy he gavewhich filled our Sundays, and of so many generations, who lived with it all day long. I’m going to take this energy, this clown from one of the greatest communicators in the world, from this businessman, who continued to be the seller of voter caps and had this communication eye to eye, and did not surrender to any movement. If we play like that, I’d like to join.”
The actor said he then started study details of the presenter, such as the position of his hands, the gestures, his vocal tics, and added to the characterization, costume, he gave his character in.” “We brought a tribute to this guy who is eternal and who will be in the history books”, he concludes.
