A pavilion in the so-called ‘blue zone’ in the COP-30 Climate conference complex, in Belém, was evacuated this Thursday after a fire broke out there, according to media reports and witnesses. Reuters.
In an interview with several vehicles, the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, stated that the fire was controlled and that the pavilion was evacuated for safety reasons.
The blue zone is where official negotiations take place, at the Leaders’ Summit and national pavilions. The area is the place where the future direction of international climate policies is defined.

‘This evacuation procedure is a standard safety procedure,’ Sabino told reporters. ‘We need to have an expert opinion to identify what caused this incident’, said the minister, adding that there were no injuries.
Images from Globo showed part of the pavilion’s stands on fire and a thick column of smoke coming out of the area. Outside the structure, many people awaited instructions from the authorities.
Images from Reuters show the damage caused by the fire at the site, with part of the roof completely destroyed.
In a post on the social network X, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, confirmed that the fire had been put out.
‘The fire in the COP30 blue zone is under control! The teams acted quickly to evacuate the area and the @cbmpara (Pará Fire Department) is working in the aftermath of the fire. The brigade was activated by @ONUBrasil, responsible for managing the space during the conference’, said the governor.
