Grêmio takes a breather in the Brasileirão after beating Vasco, who lose their fourth in a row

Grêmio practically got rid of any risk of relegation by beating Vasco 2-0, this Wednesday (19), at the Arena, in Porto Alegre, in the 34th round of the Brasileirão.

The goals of the match were scored by and , both in the second half.

Carlos Vinícius, in fact, is going through a great phase in the final stretch of the season. He scored eight goals in the last eight games, six of them at Arena do Grêmio.

Vasco, in turn, worsens its recent bad phase, . The team led by Fernando Diniz has had four consecutive defeats.

How were the goals

After a first half of extensive dominance by Grêmio — and a great performance by Vasco goalkeeper Léo Jardim —, the teams went into the break with a draw that did not correspond to what was shown in the Arena.

Well marked in the initial stage, Carlos Vinícius showed that a good striker only needs one clear chance. In the 6th minute, Pavón crossed, the center forward dominated goals, turned on Hugo Moura and hit the corner, with no chance of defense.

Vasco had the opportunity to equalize, but their top scorer wasted it: at 23, Rayan crossed and Vegetti, alone, headed wide.

Grêmio “twist the knife” in the 39th minute: Amuzu freely received Dodi’s pass, took off at speed and finished beautifully, in Léo Jardim’s corner. The ball even touched the post before going in.

Table situation and upcoming games

With the victory, Grêmio is very close to the “magic number” of 45 points that would eliminate any chance of relegation.

Imortal has 43 points and takes 11th place, passing Vasco himself, who falls to 12th place in the table, with 42 points. The one who opens the Z4 is Vitória, with 36 points.

Grêmio returns to the field for the 35th round on Saturday (22), when they face another team from Rio: Botafogo, at the Nilton Santos stadium, in Rio de Janeiro, at 7:30 pm (Brasília time).

Vasco continues to play away from home and will visit Bahia on Sunday (23), at 4pm.
