José Dirceu will coordinate new PT program – 11/19/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The former minister and former president of will be the coordinator of the discussion around the party’s new program. The programmatic reformulation is part of a series of changes that the PT, a member of the more moderate wing of the PT, seeks to make.

Dirceu, member of the PT national directory, told Sheet that the idea is to make a major diagnosis of the global and national situation and, based on this, project what the party’s ideas and practices will be for the next 20 years.

He mentioned the new reality of social networks, the rise of China and the more aggressive policy of the United States under Donald Trump, as well as a moment of strengthening of the right globally.

Everything has changed since 2016, when the PT held its last congress. But one thing, according to him, must remain unchanged: “The character of the socialist party will not be under discussion”, said Dirceu.

The PT leader spoke of seeking social and political reforms. Some of the focuses would already be present in the speeches of President Luiz Inácio da Silva (PT), such as tax justice and income distribution.

Dirceu makes a difference between party program and government program. The first serves, in his view, to seek political majorities in support of certain agendas. The second is assembled according to correlations of electoral forces and alliances with other parties.

“To transform Brazil into a sovereign country from a financial and technological point of view, [o necessário] It is not Lula’s government program, it is necessary to create a political majority”, he said. Dirceu also mentioned preserving democracy in Brazil as one of the objectives of the new program.

The PT congress is scheduled for April next year. In addition to reformulating the program, the party should review its statutes and begin discussing proposals for Lula’s re-election campaign, among other activities.
