Palmeiras drew 0-0 with Vitória, on Wednesday night (19), at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo. The result gives Flamengo the chance to extend its advantage at the top of the Brazilian Championship: later this Wednesday, it will face rival Fluminense, at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro.
With the result, the Alviverde team remained in second place, now with 69 points and four games to play until the end of the competition. The red and black team, with 71, has five matches to play in an attempt to maintain first place on the leaderboard.
Against Vitória, Palmeiras faced difficulties and played a tepid game, especially in the first half. After the break, players who had just returned from their national teams entered, such as Gustavo Gómez and Vitor Roque.
The level improved, but it was only in the final minutes that Abel Ferreira’s men established pressure. There were dangerous finishes, such as a header from Facundo Torres saved by Thiago Couto and a bicycle kick from Allan over the top. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
