An agreement for joint with the UN Secretary General’s envoy for the , Maria Angela Holgin, upon her return to Cyprus in December, was reached between the president of the Republic of Cyprus and the leader of the Turkish Cypriots, during their meeting at the house of the special representative of the G.C. of the UN in the dead zone in Nicosia.
In addition, the two leaders reportedly expressed their readiness to work for a new expanded meeting under the UN secretary general.
The meeting, under the auspices of the special representative of the secretary-general and head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus Hashim Dian, “gave the two leaders the opportunity to hold their first exchange of views in a cordial atmosphere”, states the announcement of the United Nations press representative in Cyprus Alim Sidik, according to KYPE and APE-MPE.
“Both leaders also agreed to explore other opportunities for joint meetings,” it said, while reportedly instructing their representatives to hold regular meetings ahead of Ms. Holguin’s visit and, in particular, for the next expanded informal meeting to be convened by the secretary-general. Mrs. Holguin, from Lima, the capital of Peru, where she is, also participated in the meeting via video conference.

After the meeting, Nikos Christodoulidis appeared to positively assess its outcome, while presenting four positive points that emerged from it. More specifically, according to the president of Cyprus, these are:
- The agreement for a joint meeting with Erhuurman and the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, in December
- The resumption of the meetings of the negotiators of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities to prepare a new enlarged meeting under the UN Secretary General
- Ms. Holgin’s upcoming visits to Greece and Turkey
- The visit to Cyprus of the EU envoy for Cyprus Johannes Hahn in December
