Zaynara: meet a singer from Pará who stands out on the northern music scene

The singer Zaynaraborn in Cametá, in the interior of , has stood out in the Brazilian music scene by using his art as an instrument to raise awareness about environmental and cultural issues in . In an interview with CNN, the artist shared her vision on how music can bring the public closer to relevant topics in a more accessible way.

For Zaynara, art has the power to translate technical subjects into popular language, making them more understandable to the population. “I really believe that art has this power to bring people together, to bring people to important issues through music”, highlights the singer, who incorporates elements of her Amazonian experience in her work.

Amazonian roots and representation

The artist, who grew up in direct contact with nature, transforms her experiences into songs such as “Sol do Norte” and “Amazônia Menú”. “I’m from the countryside, so I’ve always lived in the open forest, walking barefoot, running, bathing in the river. And I bring that into my songs with great pride”, he says.

Zaynara also emphasizes the importance of female protagonism in her compositions, recognizing the legacy of artists from Pará who preceded her, such as, Donate Onete e Joelma. “The Amazon is feminine, she is the mother”, says the singer, who seeks through her work to open paths for new artists in the region.

The musical richness of Cametá, the singer’s hometown, is reflected in traditional rhythms such as Master Cupijó’s Siriá, bangue, de cacete and beat melody, demonstrating the cultural diversity that the artist carries in her roots and expresses in her work.
