39% of Brazilians consider themselves environmentalists, says survey

A YouGov survey released during COP30 shows that 26% do not identify with the term and 35% maintain a neutral position

A survey released on November 14, 2025 by an international online data research technology group, identified that 39% of Brazilians consider themselves environmentalists, while 26% do not identify with the term and 35% maintain a neutral position. The survey was released during the in Belém (PA).

The survey was carried out with 17,874 respondents across Brazil and details that, among those who consider themselves environmentalists, 23% “almost completely agree” and 16% “completely agree” with this definition. In the group that does not identify with the cause, 13% “almost totally disagree” and another 13% “totally disagree”.

YouGov sought to understand Brazilians’ relationship with environmental issues during the period in which the country hosts the international climate event.

“The 35% neutrality may indicate both misinformation and fatigue in the face of an excess of narratives about sustainability; the 26% who reject the label possibly express a distance between discourse and everyday practice”said David Eastman, YouGov’s general director for Latin America.

The survey also investigated other dimensions of sustainable behavior. In a sample of 56,262 people questioned about food choices, 54% said they were concerned about the environmental impact of their food. Of these, 29% “almost completely agree” and 25% “completely agree” with the statement “I worry about the environmental impact of my food choices”.

In this same group, 12% disagreed (7% “almost completely” and 5% “completely”) and 34% maintained a neutral position.

Regarding energy savings, 57% of the 24,329 respondents agreed with the statement “I try to use less energy to help the environment”with 31% “almost completely” and 26% “completely”. Another 12% disagreed with the statement and 30% remained neutral.

The survey also assessed willingness to pay more for environmentally responsible products. Among 21,134 respondents, 56% agreed with the statement “I don’t mind paying more for products that are good for the environment”with 30% “almost completely” and 26% “completely”. Others 12% disagreed and 31% were neutral.
