Péter Szijjártó reminded that the exception was agreed two weeks ago between Viktor Orbán and Donald Trump. At the same time, the minister responded to the recent announcement by the Ukrainian president about stopping oil supplies to Hungary.
American restrictions on the purchase of Russian oil take effect on Friday, but Hungary is not affected. According to the index.hu server, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated this on Friday in Brussels. He reminded that this results from the agreement concluded two weeks ago between the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and the American President Donald Trump, informs the correspondent TASR in Budapest.
- American restrictions on the purchase of Russian oil are in effect.
- Hungary is exempt from sanctions.
- Hungary will continue to support energy supplies to Ukraine.
Exemption from sanctions
“US sanctions against Russia’s energy sector come into effect today, but at the same time the Hungarian exemption that was recently agreed in Washington also comes into effect,” said Szijjártó.
“Our American partners have informed us that the American measures granting Hungary an exemption from the imposed sanctions on the purchase of oil will of course come into effect from today,” the Hungarian minister underlined.
Szijjártó: Hungary is essential for the security of energy supplies to Ukraine
Szijjártó commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent statement about stopping oil supplies to Hungary in the future, that if the Ukrainian president is thinking about it, he should take into account the import of electricity to Ukraine. According to him, in October, 51 percent of deliveries came from Hungary. “Last month, more electricity came to Ukraine from Hungary than from all other countries combined. This means that Hungary is essential for the security of energy supplies to Ukraine,” he added.
Hungarians respect all the rules that apply to them, and Hungary will continue to play an important role in securing energy supplies for Ukrainian families, the Ukrainian people, Ukrainian households and the Ukrainian economy, concluded Szijjártó.
