Bolsonaro maintains routine visits from allies while awaiting new outcome in the STF

After having the first appeal of his conviction denied by minister Alexandre de Moraes and awaiting the outcome of the trial at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has maintained a routine of visits from parliamentarians and political allies at his home in Jardim Botânico, in Brasília, where he has been under house arrest since August 4. On Wednesday (19), he received deputy Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS), who said that the former president had “constant hiccups” throughout the afternoon. The information was originally published by Metrópoles.

Van Hattem arrived at the address late in the afternoon and left the place around 6pm. When talking to the press, the deputy stated that Bolsonaro has felt bad about a possible transfer to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in addition to the feeling of “deep non-conformity”.

“Nobody’s psychology could be good in such circumstances, and yet we see, in the figure of former president Bolsonaro, a person willing to face everything he is suffering – with all the health problems, including the constant hiccups, throughout the entire afternoon while I was there”, he declared.

The parliamentarian classified as “absurd” the accusation that Bolsonaro had led an attempted armed coup, reiterating that the former president “was not even in the country at the time of January 8th”. According to him, the inclusion of the former agent in the case occurred later, “supported by a narrative that did not exist at the beginning of the process”.

In addition to impressions about Bolsonaro’s health and psychological state, Van Hattem said that the meeting also discussed the approval, by the Chamber, of the so-called Antifaction PL, of his authorship, which prevents pre-trial detainees from voting.

“We went into the details of some provisions of the text, but, without a doubt, he is happy with the vote,” he stated. The deputy once again defended the project and classified the right to vote for pre-trial detainees as an “aberration”. “I don’t know of another country that allows prisoners to vote,” he said.

In the same tone, he reinforced his support for the amnesty PL: “We want broad, general and unrestricted amnesty. We trust that Brazil deserves to have the name of Jair Bolsonaro and all those who want to be candidates for the Presidency of the Republic at the polls.”

Visits released by Moraes

Bolsonaro’s visit schedule remains full. After requests from the defense, Moraes authorized a series of meetings between the former president and allied governors and parliamentarians. Among them are Cláudio Castro (PL), governor of Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for November 26th, and Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), governor of São Paulo, who will meet with Bolsonaro on December 10th.

Federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), who had been awaiting release for almost three months, is authorized to visit the former president and is expected to meet him this Friday (11/21).

Other authorized names include Adolfo Sachsida (24/11), Bruno Scheid (25/11), Cleidimar da Silva Moreira (27/11), Evair de Melo (28/11), Guilherme Derrite (1/12), José Medeiros (2/12), Odelmo Leão (3/12), Pablo Henrique de Faria (4/12), Paulo M. Silva (5/12), Ronaldo Caiado (9/12) and Sanderson (11/12).

On social media, Van Hattem once again criticized the former president’s arrest, stating that Moraes’ decision “imposes unacceptable torture on a 70-year-old man with fragile health” and that Bolsonaro’s arrest in the process would be “unfair and illegal”.
