On October 24, 2020, the leader of the SME RODINA party and former chairman of the National People’s Congress Boris Kollár (60) survived a terrible accident in Bratislava’s Podunajské Biskupice. After the accident, he had a broken vertebra and had to undergo an operation. On November 18, 2025, the Regional Court in Bratislava acquitted the driver of the vehicle that collided with the state limousine. For the web Kollar spoke about the permanent consequences after the accident.
The man was acquitted of the indictment filed for the crime of bodily harm by the City Court of Bratislava I in July 2024, stating that the act is not a crime. Appeals were filed against the verdict. “On November 18, 2025, the Regional Court in Bratislava decided in the appeal proceedings that rejected the appeal of the Bratislava II District Prosecutor’s Office“, explained the spokesman of the Bratislava courts, Pavol Adamčiak. The regional court also rejected the appeal of the injured party – the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
What does Kollár say about this decision? “Probably indifference, because it didn’t matter to me whether he was found guilty or not. Look, I have been given a gift and that is life. The doctors told me that most people do not survive these types of injuries and that those who do are paralyzed. Do you think if someone got probation or not, my life would be better? No, he wasn’t. I didn’t deal with it and he had to do everything to get out of it” he said forcefully.
The former chairman of the NR SR revealed what happened on the fateful evening. “Our car was going on the green light on the main road, he should have waited until we passed and not crossed the road – that’s an elementary traffic rule. He rammed into us and we were thrown from the intersection into some garden.” he mentioned. According to Kollár, the man never contacted him or apologized to him.
The politician has permanent consequences after the accident. “I have to take medicine for the rest of my life, every day. I have one artery out of two (fortunately it is a paired organ) that goes through the C2 vertebra, permanently non-functioning. It was damaged and there is a thrombus. So I only work on the second one. The range of motion of turning the head has not returned to 100 percent, there is a loss of range,” he described his difficulties.
But that’s not all. “My perception of heat or cold is ‘off’ on the entire left half of my body. If I want to know, for example, what the temperature of the water is, I have to use my right hand. The left won’t tell me. But I’m thankful I got out of it with just this,” expressed the gratitude of the leader of the SME RODINA party.
