Brazilian diplomacy had no merit in removing tariffs, says Eduardo

Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said, this Thursday (20), that Brazilian diplomacy had no merit in the announcement by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, of the withdrawal of part of the tariffs against the country.

“It is necessary to be clear: Brazilian diplomacy had no merit in the partial removal of these tariffs today. Just as it benefited other countries, the US decision was solely due to internal factors, especially the need to contain American inflation in sectors dependent on foreign inputs”, said Eduardo on X (formerly Twitter).

Eduardo has lived in the United States since the beginning of the year and was one of the tariff negotiators with the North American government, using as motivation the trial against his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), for the coup plan in the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

In the parliamentarian’s opinion, Trump needs to deliver “quick results” so that the population feels the reduction in inflation before the polls, given that in 2026 the country will have legislative elections.

“Brazil needs to regain legal security and respect for freedoms. Without this, there will be no lasting growth or reliable international relations”, he continued.

on the import of certain Brazilian agricultural products, with retroactive effect to November 13th.

The products mentioned in the annex include coffee, beef, oil, fruit and aircraft parts, products that are among the most exported by Brazil to North Americans, which will now no longer suffer surcharges imposed with the start of the tariff.

The order will require the refund of taxes charged on Brazilian imports starting last Thursday (13), according to a text released by the White House. The decision aligns the validity with the decision of Friday (14), which reduced “reciprocal” tariffs on agricultural imports for all trading partners.

For Brazilian products, this rate was 10%.

The action reverses the decree of July 30, which cited a “national emergency” due to the “unusual” and “extraordinary” policies and actions of the Brazilian government that, according to the Republican, harmed American companies, the rights of freedom of expression of US citizens and the country’s foreign policy and economy, in general to justify charging surcharges.
