Memphis Depay, scorer of one of the goals in Corinthians’ victory over São Paulo, started the classic on the bench due to concerns about his physical condition. The decision was made after a series of medical evaluations and conversations with the athlete himself.
He was experiencing physical discomfort, a situation that required special attention from the club’s medical team. Ultrasound and MRI scans were performed to assess his condition.
Caution in the lineup
According to Dorival, the recommendations of the Dutch national team’s medical department, the results of the tests carried out at the club and the athlete’s own report about his lack of confidence to start the match.
Caution in using the striker also takes into account the club’s upcoming important commitments. “We have a competition final and a very important decision ahead of us”, highlighted Dorival, who hopes to have the entire squad in full physical condition for the next challenges.
Managing Memphis’ physical condition is considered fundamental for the club, especially after previous experiences in which the athlete experienced physical problems upon returning from international commitments. In his last appearance for the Dutch national team, the player had to be substituted around the 60th minute of the game.
