Government critics use the term FLOP30 and repeat German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s speech about leaving Belém

The event in the Blue Zone of COP30 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change) on Thursday (20.Nov.2025), in the countries’ pavilion, motivated memes and jokes on the internet, especially from critics of the government (PT).

Most jokes use the term FLOP30 —“flop” means failure or disappointment—and mentions that of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz that he was happy to leave Belém.

FIRE

Videos of participants and officials leaving the pavilions in a hurry as smoke spread across the area. According to the organization, they were controlled in around 6 minutes. The Pará Fire Department was called to respond to the incident.

The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, on Thursday (Nov 20), in an interview with journalists, said that the fire “could happen anywhere on planet Earth”.

According to one from the UN (United Nations), the site was inspected and considered safe by the Fire Department after a safety assessment. The COP30 organization reopened the Blue Zone at 8:40 pm on Thursday, around 7 hours after the incident, but there were no plenary activities.

The (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) declared that this Friday morning (November 21, 2025).
