Vilnius International Airport suspended operations today as radars again detected smugglers’ balloons in the area, the National Crisis Management Center in the capital announced.
Last month, Lithuania temporarily closed its border crossings with Belarus due to air traffic problems caused by the entry of weather balloons from the neighboring country.
Lithuanian authorities said such balloons are commonly used by cigarette smugglers, accusing Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of failing to take steps to stop the practice and calling it a “hybrid attack”.
This is yet another episode between , which appear to be coming from Minsk, with Vilnius being forced to close the border.
