Lula signs 28 decrees for quilombola lands and breaks historic record

Acts published this Friday (21) benefit 5.2 thousand families; With 60 signatures, president surpasses Dilma Rousseff’s mark in declarations of social interest

O Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) This Friday (21) publishes 28 decrees declaring social interest for the expropriation of quilombola lands in several states across the country. This is the step prior to land titling. The acts were signed on Thursday (20), the Black Consciousness holiday, by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio da Silva.

“Today, President Lula becomes the president who signed the most decrees of this type in the history of our country,” said the Minister of Racial Equality, on Thursday, after a meeting with the president at Palácio da Alvorada, in Brasília.

In total, Lula signed 60 decrees declaring social interest during his term, surpassing the former president, who issued 50.

According to the minister, the 28 decrees signed on Thursday serve 31 communities, with 5.2 thousand families. She reported that Lula is willing to move forward with other measures of this type. In total, nine steps are needed to deliver the titles to the communities.
