Slovak actress, diplomat and writer Magda Vášaryová was recognized by the audience when she was only 15 years old. Although she studied sociology, she shone in several films. At the beginning of the 90s, she accepted Václav Havel’s offer, became ambassador to Austria and was actively involved in politics for 34 years. Vášaryová appeared at an event in the Václav Havel Library, where she spoke about her plans, she writes.
During the discussion, she said words that resonated with everyone in the room. “I’m already at an age where I won’t be here with you for a long time,” she declared at the outset, clarifying that it was this sense of urgency that compelled her to act.
“So I said to myself that it is the duty of people who have experienced many important things in those 35 years, which happened here behind the scenes and not only in the newspapers, so it is a duty before it disappears and leaves to give some testimony and thoughts because in time he will no longer have the ability to articulate it,” Vášaryová indicated that she plans to write a book
Vášaryová served as Czech-Slovakian ambassador to Austria (1990-1993), Slovakian ambassador to Poland (2000-2005), state secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic and as a member of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic. In 1999, she even ran as an independent candidate for the post of president of Slovakia. She won 6.6% in the elections, but did not make it to the second round. She was the first woman in Slovakia to run for the presidency.
