The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, will meet this Friday, 21, at the White House. The meeting is scheduled for 3pm local time (5pm Brasília time).
On his X profile, Mamdani posted, around 8:30 am local time, a photo smiling on a commercial flight, with an airplane emoji, showing that he was already on his way to Washington.
Trump announced the meeting on Wednesday the 19th at Truth Social. “The communist mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has requested a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place in the Oval Office on Friday, November 21. More details to come,” he said.

The exchange of insults between the president and the mayor has become common in recent months. Trump has already referred to the Democrat as a “complete communist lunatic” and “totally crazy”, while Mamdani classified the Republican’s government as “authoritarian” and described himself as “Donald Trump’s worst nightmare”.
Mamdani’s election less than a month ago represented a political defeat for Trump, who supported the other candidate, Andrew Cuomo. During the election campaign, the president even questioned the citizenship of Mamdani – who was born in Uganda and naturalized after completing college in the USA – and threatened to arrest him if he was elected and did not cooperate with immigration agents.

Trump also threatened to cut funding from New York, his hometown, if the Democrat were elected. In his first speech after his victory, Mamdani said that “if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that raised him.”
Mamdani will replace Democrat Eric Adams in January, when he will take over as mayor of the most populous city in the US.
