PF investigates clandestine route used by Ramagem to travel to the USA

The Federal Police are investigating whether deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) left Brazil via a parallel route before embarking for the United States. The line of investigation considered most likely is that the parliamentarian crossed the border through a neighboring country, avoiding Brazilian migration control before continuing his journey to Miami.

The case came to light after the portal PlatôBR disclose that Ramagem was in the USA. Even though he was in office, there is no record that the deputy informed the Chamber of Deputies about his absence or requested authorization to travel, a mandatory procedure for parliamentarians.

Ramagem was sentenced by the Federal Supreme Court to 16 years, one month and 15 days in prison in a closed regime for participating in the 2022 coup plot, but remained free pending the completion of the procedural procedures.

The possibility that he had left the country without official control led the Psol to request, on Wednesday (19), his preventive arrest.

In the request sent to the PF and the STF, the party argues that the trip constitutes a concrete risk of escape and requests that, if Ramagem’s presence abroad is confirmed, mechanisms such as extradition or direct cooperation with United States authorities be activated.

The Chamber, in turn, stated that it did not receive any communication about the parliamentarian’s international travel and that he is not part of an official mission abroad.
