PF investigates fire in the COP30 blue zone and investigates suspected microwave short

The Federal Police have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the fire recorded in the blue zone of COP30, in Belém. Experts from the corporation have already carried out a preliminary inspection at the site and are expected to complete a full investigation this Friday (21).

Witnesses from the affected pavilions and neighboring structures will also be interviewed. The information was confirmed by CNN Brazil.

One of the ongoing investigations points to the possibility that the fire was caused by a microwave that was incompatible with the electrical network installed in the event area. The PF wants to clarify how the equipment entered the conference’s controlled access region, if the hypothesis is confirmed.

Preliminary reports indicate that, last week, a similar device was installed in the Chinese pavilion, but ended up being removed.

If confirmed, the episode would reinforce the assessment that the fire is not related to design or infrastructure flaws at COP30, but rather to the use of equipment unsuitable for the location.
