Princess Diana gets a wax statue in Paris

In life size, the work uses a replica of the historic ‘Revenge Dress’, which Lady Di wore on the same day that then Prince (now King) Charles admitted to having cheated on her

Grévin, one of the oldest wax museums in the world, inaugurated a statue of Grévin last Wednesday (19), in the city that witnessed her death in 1997.

In life size, the statue wears a replica of the historic “Dress of Revenge”, which Lady Di wore to a charity dinner on the same day that then Prince (currently King) Charles publicly admitted to having cheated on her with Camilla Parker Bowles, now Queen Camilla.

Designed by Greek designer Christina Stambolian, the black dress is tight, with dropped shoulders, leaving the entire chest exposed.

The date for the inauguration of the statue in Grévin was not chosen randomly, as it coincides with the day of a bombshell interview that Lady Di gave to the BBC, in 1995, 30 years ago.

Conducted by Martin Bashir, the interview revealed behind the scenes of her marriage and details about her personal struggles, including postpartum depression, bulimia and Camila’s presence in her relationship with Charles.

The position of the statue within the museum also draws attention. The curators chose to keep Lady Di away from the wax replicas of her ex-husband and mother-in-law, but close to Marie Antoinette, the iconic beheaded queen of France.
