SHMÚ issued warnings: Up to 40 cm of snow may fall in these parts of Slovakia!

On Friday, it may snow throughout the day in central and eastern Slovakia. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) therefore issued warnings of the first and second degree. It also warns of strong winds, snow tongues and drifts. He informs about it on his website.

The second level snow warning applies to almost the entire Prešovský region and the districts of Gelnica, Košice – surroundings, Rožňava and Spišská Nová Ves.Heavy snowfall is expected, with 35 to 40 centimeters of new snow falling. The mentioned height of new snow represents a great danger for human activities (traffic and movement of people). The expected amount of new snow is above average for the given time of year and area, and the probability of causing damage is high“, the meteorologists stated. They issued a first level warning for snowfall for the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Detva, Poltár, Revúca, Rimavská Sobota, Zvolen, Košice mesto, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Námestovo, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín.

SHMÚ also draws attention to the occurrence of snow tongues and drifts, in the entire Prešov, Košice and Žilina regions and the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Banská Štiavnica, Žarnovica and Žiar nad Hronom. Level 1 and level 2 warnings are in effect there.

Strong winds with an average speed of 45 kilometers per hour are expected by the SHMÚ in the districts of Košice mesto, Košice – okolie, Michalovce, Rožňava and Trebišov. Strong wind in the mountains may occur on Friday in the districts of Dolný Kubín, Martin, Ružomberok and Žilina. The first-level warning is also valid in these districts.
