The decision will be made in a few days: Prime Minister Fico does not yet see reasons to dismiss Lajčák

  • The Prime Minister will decide on Miroslav Lajčák on Wednesday, November 26.
  • Fico does not yet see reasons for his dismissal due to communication with Epstein.
  • The coalition SNS and the opposition call for an end to cooperation.
  • Lajčák admitted communicating with Epstein as part of diplomatic duties.

The decision on whether Miroslav Lajčák will end his post as advisor to the Prime Minister in connection with media information about communication with Jeffrey Epstein will be made next Wednesday (November 26). The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic stated this at the press conference on Friday Robert Fico (Smer-SD) with the fact that he does not yet see anything that would compromise the former head of Slovak diplomacy.

“Some information is still being checked, and if it is proven that Miroslav Lajčák has failed, he will go away. But so far I have not seen anything that would compromise him,” pointed out the prime minister.

He emphasized that Lajčák’s work as an advisor will not end based on the “bubble that is being created” and posts on social networks. “That doesn’t give me enough arguments to send him away,” he declared, referring to the reputation Lajčák earned as a diplomat. He wants to make a decision on Wednesday after returning from the EU-Africa summit. “If it is proven that there was a failure, Mr. Lajčák will be dismissed,” he repeated.

The coalition SNS and representatives of the opposition called on the prime minister to end cooperation with his adviser Miroslav Lajčák. They appeal to it in connection with his communication with the American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In the published documents related to the case of the deceased American financier convicted of sexual crimes, there is also an e-mail communication that allegedly took place between the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Lajčák and Epstein. Lajčák told TASR that in the past he communicated with the financier only socially as part of his diplomatic duties.
