The UN Secretary General warns: Peace proposals must not bypass the territorial integrity of Ukraine

Any peace plan for Ukraine must be “consistent” with United Nations resolutions that support the “territorial integrity” of the country. This was stated by UN Secretary General António Guterres on Friday in response to the US peace plan, TASR reports, according to a report by AFP.

“We’re talking about something that has appeared in the press but has never been formally submitted by the United States or any other entity,” Guterres said at a press conference in Johannesburg ahead of the G20 summit. “A peaceful solution for Ukraine that is consistent with these principles would have to be as well in accordance with the resolutions of the General Assembly, which clearly state that the territorial integrity of Ukraine and … the territorial integrity of the states must be respected,” he emphasized.

The draft 28-point peace plan supported by US President Donald Trump would require Kyiv to make territorial and security concessions to Moscow, while Russia would be readmitted to the G8 and sanctions imposed on Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine would be eased. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was expected to discuss the plan with Trump “in the coming days.”
