Union oil production rises 3.6% in September

Monthly volume reached 174 thousand bpd in 2025; Mero field accounted for the largest portion allocated to the federal government

The share of oil belonging to the Union reached 174 thousand bpd (barrels per day) in September 2025 – an increase of 3.57% compared to the previous month, according to (Pré-Sal Petróleo SA), the public company managing sharing contracts and responsible for marketing the Union’s oil and gas.

The data includes the production of 8 sharing contracts and 4 AIPs (Production Individualization Agreements).

In the sharing contracts, the Union received 157,210 bpd, with emphasis on the Mero field, responsible for more than 68% of the total. In the AIPs, production totaled 16,830 bpd, with the Mero AIP responsible for 78% of the portion delivered to the government.

The other fields produced:

  • Sepia – 25.570 bpd;
  • Itapú – 13.200 bpd;
  • Buzios – 8.020 bpd;
  • Sapinhoá – 2.270 bpd;
  • Sunday – 1.320 bpd;
  • Espadim – 10 bpd;
  • Southwest Green Turtle – 10 bpd.

The increase recorded in Mero is associated with the operation of new floating units installed in the field, which gradually increase the oil flow and processing capacity in the area.

Total production from fields under the sharing regime reached 1.43 million bpd – an increase of 3% over August. Mero led production with 607.2 thousand bpd, followed by Búzios, with 570.4 thousand bpd.

In the sharing regime, adopted for the most valuable pre-salt areas, part of the oil extracted belongs directly to the Union, which can sell the oil on the international market through PPSA. The model differs from the concession regime, in which the oil belongs entirely to the companies.

In relation to natural gas, exports from sharing contracts fell 14% in September, reaching 6.43 million m³ per day. The Búzios field was the largest exporter, with 4.98 million m³ per day, equivalent to 77% of the total.

Since the beginning of the sharing regime, in 2017, accumulated natural gas production amounts to 4.6 billion m³, of which 286.54 million m³ correspond to the Union’s share.
