Olympia (Washington) – The first person in the world to be proven infected with the H5N5 bird flu virus has died. The poultry farmer from the Grays Harbor region was older and had existing medical conditions, the Washington State Department of Health in Olympia said, emphasizing: “The risk to the public remains low.” In mid-November, the ministry announced the man’s infection. Previously, H5N5 had only been detected in animals.
