“All the red lines” included by the European Union, says Environment Minister, Maria de Graça Carvalho.
The countries gathered at the COP30 Climate Conference, in Belém do Pará, Brazil, approved the final draft agreement no mention of fossil energies and they want to see funding for climate adaptation in developing countries tripled.
According to the text published this Saturday, the final draft of the agreement between around 200 countries at the UN climate conference in Brazil does not contain any explicit mention of fossil energy, contrary to the requests of many states, including European countries.
The text, which still has to be approved by consensus in the closing session that will take place this Saturday in Belém, calls for a tripling of funding for climate adaptation in developing countries over the next 10 years.
The document also provides for the establishment of a dialogue on world tradea new development in climate negotiations. THE Chinawhich is leading emerging countries’ revolt against carbon taxes on borders, has made this its priority, along with other exporting countries.
“Our red lines are all there”, assured the Portuguese Environment Minister, Maria de Graça Carvalho, quoted by: “and at the last minute we managed to reach an agreement, which is very good”.
